ST. GEORGE — After nearly a decade of drug abuse, repeated jail stints and multiple overdoses, a St. George man is now giving back to the community by creating and distributing care kits for people in need through partnerships with local police departments.

Once consumed entirely by his addiction to the point of becoming homeless, Jesse Soto, 28, said he wants to help others facing the same struggles he once knew too well.

"This is a super awesome experience to do something good for the community rather than tear it down," Soto told St. George News.

After entering Washington County's Adult Recovery Court program (formerly known as drug court), Soto said he worked with his tracker to brainstorm ways to give back. Together, they developed a first-of-its-kind idea for the area, partnering with local police departments on a project to support the homeless community.
