COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A woman wanted in Ohio was arrested in Utah Sunday after allegedly hitting a police car.
Aja Lashay Mack, 23, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of assault on a police officer, possessing a stolen vehicle and other potential charges.
Sunday evening, Cottonwood Heights police received an automated notification from a license plate reader on Fort Union Boulevard of a stolen vehicle. Officers responded to the area and located the car parked in a gas station near 6900 South and 1300 East.
"I had my emergency lighting activated, which includes significant lighting on the side of the vehicle facing the suspect, and exited my vehicle with my firearm drawn, yelling at the suspect driver to exit the vehicle. The driver looked at me as she put the vehicle in reverse and rammed my police vehicle in an attempt to escape," the arresting officer wrote in a police booking affidavit. "I yelled commands to stop and threatened to shoot her if she attempted to hit me or other officers with her vehicle."
As Mack appeared to be getting ready to hit the police car again, the officer used his baton to break the driver's side window.
"I reached into the vehicle and grabbed the suspect's hair to control her head, therefore controlling her body, and commanded her to show her hands. I reached in with my other hand and opened the door, then removed the suspect from the vehicle and placed her on the ground," the affidavit states.
Drug paraphernalia and stolen credit cards were found in the vehicle, according to police. The woman was treated for cuts from the broken glass before being booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Mack is currently on probation for an undisclosed felony crime and is wanted in Ohio, the affidavit says.
