MESQUITE, Nevada — A St. George man was identified as the victim of a fatal collision several miles outside of Mesquite, Nevada, late last month, according to the Nevada State Police.
The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. on July 31 on southbound I-15 about 11 miles south and west of Mesquite, Trooper Shawn Haggstrom said in a news release Monday. A 2022 Kia Forte sedan was traveling south in the left lane of the highway about 6:45 a.m. when it struck a 2024 Isuzu NPR-HD cone truck that was parked between the left shoulder and the left lane "in a construction area with its direction board and warning lights activated," Haggstrom said.
The driver of the truck was out of the vehicle and putting up construction signs along the highway. Haggstrom said the driver of the Kia didn't move over when approaching the maintenance vehicle, "and the left front of the Kia struck the right rear of the Isuzu."
The driver of the Kia, who was identified as William Rance Bill, 22, of St. George, died at the scene, Haggstrom said. A passenger of the Kia was taken to a nearby hospital. Police did not provide details about the passenger's condition.
The Nevada State Policy Highway Patrol's Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the collision and more information was not immediately available.
