ST. GEORGE — Perched high in the Dixie National Forest with sweeping alpine views, the Brian Head Peak Overlook is in need of a facelift. Officials are inviting volunteers to camp and lend a hand in its restoration.

Mardita Murphy, program manager for the Four Corners region of HistoriCorps, told St. George News that workers of all skill levels are needed to help rebuild a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps stone shelter.

HistoriCorps, a nonprofit construction organization, is collaborating with Zion Forever Project crews and the Iron County Tourism Office to preserve the historic overlook, which was severely damaged in a 2022 windstorm.

There will be four weeklong sessions taking place in September and October, giving participants a chance to assist in preserving a piece of public lands history:

  • Session 1: Sept. 14–19
  • Session 2: Sept. 21–26
  • Session 3: Sept. 28–Oct. 3
  • Session 4: Oct. 5–10
