THE MAIN DRAG — There are few things more joyous-looking than a dog sticking its head out of a moving car. The ears flapping, the tongue wagging and the general look of bliss.

It's no wonder that so many people let their dogs do it. But here's a spoiler alert: It can be dangerous for dogs to stick their heads out of your window. Why? Well, let's take a quick look at some of the risks:

  • Debris: Think of all the things that fly through the air and sometimes smack into your windshield. One of them could easily hit your dog.
  • Eye injuries: The wind can dry out your dog's eyes and make them susceptible to scratches or other damage from debris.
  • Ear damage: The force of the wind can actually cause windburn or more serious damage to your dog's ear flaps.
  • Injury from falls: Your dog might fall or jump out of the window, especially if they're small or become startled by something.

But what if your dog loves hitting the open road with you? How do you satisfy your dog's desire for open-air driving without putting them at risk?

Perhaps you design a motorcycle trailer like the one seen in this video.

As I review my list of risks, it seems like this unique setup addresses most of them. With goggles, the dog is protected from eye injuries. And the rig guards from large debris and injuries from falls and jumps.

I have no idea where you would even get this kind of pooch trailer, but it seems like it could be a good investment for all the motorcyclists out there.
