GRANTSVILLE — A Grantsville man is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he chased after another vehicle while shooting at it seven or eight times during a road rage confrontation.

Mark McGehee, 53, was arrested Sunday and charged Tuesday in Tooele County's 3rd District Court with two counts of attempted murder and being a restricted person in possession of a gun, first-degree felonies; and two counts of illegal shooting of a gun, a second-degree felony.

Each charge comes with a road rage penalty enhancement if convicted. McGehee was additionally charged with two counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; two counts of reckless endangerment, a third-degree felony and a class A misdemeanor; reckless driving, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.

About 6:40 p.m. Saturday, McGehee "was reported to be chasing two victims throughout the city of Grantsville." McGehee had already hit the victims' vehicle twice during a verbal argument, causing minor damage, before the victims were able to drive away, according to a police booking affidavit.

"After which Mark began to chase the victim's vehicle, which contained a passenger, through Grantsville. Mark drove into oncoming traffic, attempting to get the victim to pull the vehicle over. During one of these attempts, Mark produced a handgun and fired a single round at the driver," according to the affidavit.

The passenger in the victim's vehicle called 911 as they were trying to get away.

"Mark then again began firing at the victims' vehicle from his vehicle as he followed the victims. It is reported Mark fired seven to eight rounds while chasing the victims north on state Route 138 until the victims entered I-80 westbound," the affidavit alleges.

McGehee was arrested Sunday. No serious injuries were reported. The arrest report does not provide additional information about the initial road rage incident.
