HONOLULU — I'll admit, Hawaii is a very special place. It never ceases to amaze me.

And one of those amazing things I get to see when I come home to visit my parents from time to time doesn't happen very often, and they're not rainbows (which are always something to behold).

They are waterfalls coming down the sides of the Koolau mountain range, which are visible when you emerge from the Tetsuo Harano Tunnels on the H-3 freeway. These sights only happen after constant or sudden heavy rains — which sometimes include thunderstorms or even remnants of or passing tropical storms and hurricanes.

And believe me, they can sometimes become a distraction for drivers on the freeway, so be careful not to get too caught up — and definitely don't record them while driving!

But regardless of what the music group TLC says, know at least in Hawaii, it's OK to go chase some waterfalls, especially some as beautiful as these.
