MURRAY — An employee at a Murray day care was charged Wednesday with sexually abusing children.

Shawn David Beebe, 38, of Magna, is charged in 3rd District Court with seven counts of sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Murray police were made aware in February "that an employee at a day care in Salt Lake County, Shawn David Beebe, was sexually abusing young children," according to charging documents. The charges do not state the name of the day care.

At least three boys, ages 5 and 6, were "repeatedly" touched inappropriately by Beebe, usually while they were sitting on his lap while watching a movie, according to charging documents.

One boy "stated that he was afraid Beebe would get fired, so he was scared to tell his mom" about the alleged abuse, the charges state. Another told investigators that Beebe would touch him while they were watching a movie, but he would remove his hand "quickly so 'my friends don't see it.'"

"After (Beebe) was terminated from the day care attended by (the three boys), he obtained employment at at least one other day care center," the charges state.
