ST. GEORGE — A man who was sentenced for a fatal hit-and-run on Red Cliffs Drive in Washington in 2023 was recently back in court.

On April 7, Joe Emanuel Hernandez, 22, of West Valley City, appeared in the 5th District Court for sentencing on several probation violations filed since his release in April of last year.

Hernandez was convicted of third-degree felony leaving the scene of an accident involving death and filing a false insurance claim charges, along with one misdemeanor count each of obstruction of justice, negligent homicide and driving on a suspended license.

The charges were filed following an incident on April 6, 2023, when emergency dispatch received a call that an injured man was lying in the roadway near 1050 West and Red Cliffs Drive, as St. George News previously reported.
