SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man has been charged with firing shots at another driver during a road rage confrontation.

Elias Jose Orozco, 25, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault and two counts of discharge of a firearm, second-degree felonies. The charges all come with road rage penalty enhancements if convicted.

On Feb. 23, Orozco, who was driving a Scion, began tailgating a Mazda near 1700 W. North Temple, according to charging documents. The Mazda driver allegedly told Orozco to "stop driving crazy."

That's when the Mazda driver heard two gunshots in a row followed by four more, according to the charges.

The driver "did not think anything more about the incident until he found two bullet holes in his Mazda a few days later, and he called the police," the charges state.

Police say they identified Orozco as being the driver of the Scion. A warrant was issued Monday for his arrest.
