MILAN — Next year's Olympics might be called the Milan Cortina Games but it will actually be staged across a large swath of northern Italy spread over five different venue clusters. Covering an area of nearly 10,000 square miles, the 2026 Games will be the most widespread Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games ever. And that's even if a trip to New York doesn't have to be factored in. In addition to Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, competition will also take place in Bormio and Livigno in Valtellina, Predazzo and Tesero in Val di Fiemme and Anterselva/Antholz. The main concern is the building of the controversial sliding center in Cortina. The backup plan is to host the bobsled, luge and skeleton events in Lake Placid, New York.
