SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, Austria — Italy beat Switzerland to win the mixed team parallel event that opened the Alpine skiing world championships. The final ended 2-2 and Italy won with an advantage of 0.45 seconds in total time. The defending champion United States lost the bronze-medal race to Sweden. Host Austria was eliminated early on by Sweden. The women's super-G featuring Lindsey Vonn on Thursday is the first individual event of the championships.
