Hooper man accused of firing nearly a dozen rounds through ex's front door

BRIGHAM CITY — A Hooper man is accused of firing multiple shots through his former girlfriend's front door.

Zackary Robert Walker, 25, was charged Monday in 1st District Court with 11 counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

On Dec. 15, about 3 a.m., police believe Walker fired at least 11 rounds at his ex-girlfriend's home in Brigham City. No one was home, however, and the woman didn't find the damage until Dec. 16.

"We observed 11 bullet holes in the front door. The bullets went through the front door at an upwards trajectory, which would be consistent with having been fired from the roadway. The bullets went into the ceiling of the interior dining/living room of the home and at least one bullet fragmented sending shrapnel into the wall and window that are opposite the front door," an officer wrote in a police booking affidavit.

The woman told officers that she suspected Walker was responsible as she had just ended a relationship with him in November, which allegedly included incidents of domestic violence, the affidavit states.

Using license plate reader data, investigators learned that Walker's vehicle was in the area about the time the shots were fired, according to the affidavit.

"Warrants were granted for cell phone data, residential search, property search, GPD tracking, and cellphone location ping. Through these efforts and several days of surveillance, Zackary was arrested safely on foot in the city of Clearfield. He had a pistol in his waistband at the time of the arrest," according to police. "The search of Zackary's home resulted in the discovery of 12 firearms of various calibers, ammunition, mushroom and marijuana grow operations, (and a) large collection of knives."
