SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man being removed from the apartment from which he was evicted was arrested and accused of stabbing a constable with a sword.
Johnathan Steven Clark, 27, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of assault on an officer, interfering with an officer, trespassing and escape.
Salt Lake City police say the constable's injury was minor.
On Wednesday, Clark was spotted at an apartment from which he was evicted a week earlier, according to a police booking affidavit. A constable was called to remove Clark from the property, when Clark "stabbed the victim, the constable, in the ribs with a sword," a police booking affidavit states. On Thursday, Salt Lake police said the injury was more of a scratch.
Clark ran off after attacking the constable, according to police. He was spotted near 300 S. State. As an officer attempted to take him into custody, "Johnathan bit the officer's ear," the affidavit states. After Clark was handcuffed and placed in the back of police patrol car, "he then slipped the handcuffs, attempting to escape" and had to be re-cuffed.
Police say when he was arrested, officers also found "body armor" in Clark's backpack.
