HEBER CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in a crash that happened northwest of Strawberry Reservoir on Tuesday. The crash also killed one child and injured two other children in the car.
A pickup truck and a Volkswagen Passat were traveling in opposite directions on U.S. 40 at about 2:40 p.m. when the Passat crossed over the center line for an unknown reason, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden said.
On Thursday, UHP named Norma Jones, a 35-year-old Duchesne resident, as the driver of the Passat. Investigators said she not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected in the crash, killing her on impact.
A 3-year-old girl in the Passat, who was not named by UHP, was also unrestrained and fully ejected from the car. She died on impact, as well, a statement from UHP says.
There were two other unrestrained children in the car who survived the crash, UHP said. Both were flown to a hospital with "serious" injuries that did not, however, appear life-threatening, according to troopers.
The two men in the truck were injured, but their injuries did not appear life-threatening either. They were transported by ambulance to a hospital. They were both "properly restrained" at the time of the crash, UHP said.
U.S. 40 was closed for several hours in both directions while emergency crews responded to the scene.
