The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are in similar situations heading into their season opener Sunday at home. The teams both made the playoffs in 2022 under first-year coaches Kevin O'Connell and Brian Daboll. The Giants beat the Vikings in a NFC wild-card game. Both missed the playoffs in 2023. They Vikings were 7-10 and the Giants 6-11. As they try to right things much depends on the quarterbacks. Sam Darnold is starting for Minnesota, which lost rookie J.J. McCarthy to a knee injury. Daniel Jones of the Giants is returning from ACL surgery.
