MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have claimed well-traveled relief pitcher Michael Tonkin off waivers from the New York Yankees in an attempt to boost a taxed bullpen. The Twins are bringing back the 34-year-old for a second stint with them this season. He started his career with the Twins in 2013 and was out of the major leagues for five years until returning with the Atlanta Braves in 2023. This is the fifth time Tonkin has switched teams in nine months. He has also had two stints this season with the New York Mets.
