MONTIGNY-LE-BRETONNEUX, France — Connie Carpenter-Phinney finally has some company as an Olympic road race champion. The first and last American woman to win the most important race in the cycling program at the Summer Games watched Sunday as Kristen Faulkner triumphed on the streets of Paris. It was the fourth Olympic medal in cycling for the U.S. already this year, and one more would match its best performance since the 1984 Los Angeles Games, when Carpenter-Phinney won her gold medal. The program shifts to the track on Monday, where the U.S. pursuit squad is a medal contender and Jennifer Valente the defending omnium champion.
