Taylor Knibb resigned her position on the U.S. cycling team for the road race at the Paris Olympics. She will be replaced by Kristen Faulkner, who already had been picked to compete with the American pursuit squad in the velodrome. The decision by Knibb was not entirely surprising. Her speciality is the triathlon, and the two-time defending women's Ironman 70.3 world champion has long planned to compete in that event at her second consecutive Summer Games on July 31. The schedule and Knibb's relative lack of experience in a peloton contributed to her decision to step away from the road race. She will still race the time trial along with the triathlon.
