SALT LAKE CITY — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Salt Lake man accused of shooting another man in the leg after the victim had allegedly asked him for help.

Kenneth Ray Washington III, 37, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with shooting a person causing serious injury, a first-degree felony. Police located him Friday night and arrested him.

On Feb. 1, police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment, 1475 W. Gillespie Ave. A man was found in the apartment with a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, according to police and charging documents.

The man told police that he had been staying at the residence for a few days while he was sick and on that day had asked Washington for help getting his clothing, the charges state.

"Washington got upset and told (the man that he) was going to 'handle him.' Washington then slapped (the man) in the face," and the two men got into an argument, the charges say. "Washington then pulled out a gun, pointed it at (the man's) head and stated, 'I should kill you now,'" before shooting the man in the leg, according to the affidavit.

The victim told police he briefly lost consciousness after being shot.
