A bad economy is taking a toll, and construction workers appear to be feeling the pinch the most.

About 15,800 construction jobs were lost between November of last year and November of this year. Most of the construction workers out of a job are those who work on homes. The subprime crisis has decimated the home building market.

An economist with Workforce Services says it doesn't appear things will get much better in 2009. He predicts more job losses with a growing number coming from commercial construction.

The recession is also hurting car sellers in Utah. The manager of Willey Honda in Bountiful says auto sales slipped 7 or 8 percent during the first six months of the year. Then during the third quarter they plunged 40 percent.

The Utah Tax Commission reports new car sales are down 26 percent in the third quarter, and used car sales are down 16 percent.

Late car payments are up by as much as 17 percent.
