South Jordan police are hoping a sketch and surveillance photos of an armed bank robber will help catch him.
The suspect was wearing a fake beard when he walked into the Key Bank at 11400 South and 3600 West in South Jordan yesterday morning. Police say he demanded money from the teller at gunpoint.
Along with the beard, the man was wearing a green beanie, sunglasses, gray sweat pants and a blue pullover sweatshirt with a silver stripe.
Police don't think he was working alone. They say he showed up in one stolen car and left in another. "We have a lot of information we are trying to piece together in regard to what transpired, but I do understand that he arrived and left in a stolen vehicle," South Jordan police Lt. Matt Evans said.
Police from several agencies in Salt Lake County are working together to determine whether yesterday's robbery and other recent bank robberies involving a man wearing a fake beard are connected.
On Nov. 28, a man wearing a fake beard robbed a US Bank in Holladay. He was also wearing sunglasses and a beanie. Then on Dec. 4, a man matching the same description robbed a Beehive Credit Union on Foothill Drive. Police say he drove off in a stolen car they found ditched a block away.
Again, police aren't saying for sure that these robberies are related, but if anyone has any information call police. Phone numbers for the three agencies involved are listed below:
- South Jordan Police Department: 801-840-4000
- Salt Lake City Police Department: 801-799-3000
- Salt Lake County Sherriff's Office: 801-743-7000
