WELLSVILLE, Cache County — Troopers have identified a Cache County man killed when his vehicle struck a semitruck hauling cattle Friday morning, killing two cows.

A Thunderbird was heading west on state Route 101 near the junction with U.S. 91, when it crossed over into the eastbound lanes around 6:39 a.m. The vehicle then hit a semi head on, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden said.

Robert C. Downs, 44, from Wellsville was driving the Thunderbird and was transported to the hospital, but died shortly after arriving. Roden said the semi driver was uninjured, but the truck was hauling cattle and two cows were killed in the crash.

State Route 101 was closed for several hours while troopers responded to the accident.
