Man on electric scooter hit and killed in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — A man riding an electric scooter in the Fairpark neighborhood was hit by a car Sunday night and later died.

Ismael Ontivaros, 41, was hit near 800 W. North Temple just before 9 p.m. The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle remained on scene, according to police.

"The specific cause of the crash remains under investigation. Impairment may be a factor and additional investigative work is needed," Salt Lake City police stated Monday.

Ontivaros was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died from his injuries.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made or citations issued.
