MAGNA — A man who police say attacked another person completely at random at a Magna business — leaving the victim with injuries that may result in the loss of his vision — was arrested Tuesday.
Kyle Chase Cook, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
Unified police originally responded to a report of an assault at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 9057 W. Main Street, on March 2. A 53-year-old man was found bleeding from his head at the establishment, according to police.
"Information was later obtained that the victim went to the hospital due to worsening injuries," a police booking affidavit states. Some of those injuries include orbital fractures and "the possibility of losing vision," the affidavit states.
Due to the worsening condition of the victim, police conducted a follow-up interview with Cook. Originally, Cook "blamed the assault on his anger." But when questioned again, he "admitted to seeking out a fight, assaulting the victim and leaving the scene," according to the affidavit.
Police noted in the affidavit that Cook "committed this crime in an act of uncontrollable rage and targeted a random person."
