PROVO — A driver involved in what troopers say was a racing incident Saturday was arrested on outstanding warrants and booked into the Utah County jail.
Shortly before 7 p.m., two red vehicles were reported to have been racing on the I-15 near Provo. One of the vehicles was a Dodge Charger and the other was a Subaru WRX.
"The driver of the Subaru lost control, impacted the right concrete barrier and ricocheted into the left barrier," the Utah Highway Patrol said in a press release.
All of the occupants of the Subaru were transported to the hospital, UHP said. A 4-year-old girl who was not wearing a seat belt suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said. She was reported as being in stable condition Monday morning.
"With assistance of witness information, the driver of the Dodge Charger was located and interviewed," according to the highway patrol.
The Subaru driver was the boyfriend of the child's mother and not related, troopers said. He was arrested on outstanding warrants and booked into the Utah County jail.
Possible criminal charges are being considered for both drivers in connection with the racing incident, and the county attorney is being consulted for possible charges against the mother.
