SALT LAKE CITY — Officers are looking for a suspect or suspects after one person was shot and critically injured in Salt Lake City on Monday evening.
The shooting happened near 1413 S. 1200 West, a residential area, just before 6:45 p.m., Salt Lake police said. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound and administered medical help.
Police initially said the person's injury did not appear life-threatening, but they later reported the injury "is now considered critical" after hospital staff evaluated him.
Police said the motive of the shooting is unknown at this time.
Officers detained one person but determined the person wasn't involved in the shooting, police tweeted, and they continue searching for anyone involved.
Witnesses saw the shooter and an unknown number of people leave the area, police said in a press release. Roads near the crime scene were closed for the investigation.
