GENEVA — Long-time Olympic power broker Sheikh Ahmad of Kuwait has had his conviction for forgery upheld on appeal. However a court ruling in Geneva published Monday says the sheikh will not serve jail time for his part in a coup plot to implicate public rivals at home. Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah and others had their convictions from September 2021 upheld. Another lawyer was acquitted on appeal. The case was about orchestrating a sham arbitration case a decade ago. Sheikh Ahmad has been an International Olympic Committee member for 32 years though was suspended last year. Sheikh Ahmad has denied wrongdoing and can appeal to the Swiss federal tribunal in the IOC's home city, Lausanne.
