MURRAY — A Millcreek man was charged Friday with shooting and killing a man during a confrontation that started over a parking space dispute and resulted in the deaths of two people.
Sobeth Noge Koki, 19, is charged in 3rd District Court with murder, a first-degree felony; obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony; and two counts of discharge of a firearm, one second-degree and one third-degree felony.
On Dec. 30, Murray police were called to the Brickgate Apartments, 142 W. 4450 South, on a report of multiple shots fired.
Two brothers had returned to their home at the apartment complex to find another car in their assigned parking space. They started honking their horn in hopes that someone would move the car, according to charging documents.
"They waited 20 minutes, and no one came out, so they called their dad, Mojtaba Ahmadi, 42, to come help and also called a tow truck to get the car out of their spot," the charges state.
Three men then walked up to them, including Koki and Laka Girah, who "had a black AR-15 style rifle in his pants," the charging documents say. One of the brothers told Girah to move his car.
"Who are you talking to like that?" Girah said while holding the AR-15, according to the charges.
Police say Girah and Koki, who was holding a handgun, then began hitting one of the brothers. Ahmadi attempted to pull the men off his son as the son and Koki wrestled over the AR-15, the charges say.
"Koki then pointed the Glock handgun at Mojtaba and threatened to shoot him. After a brief verbal exchange, Koki shot Mojtaba in the stomach area and then fired two more shots at Mojtaba," the charges state. "Mojtaba can be seen running away holding his stomach and then collapsing."
Ahmadi, who received multiple gunshot wounds, died at the scene.
Koki and Girah ran from the area. But Girah was also shot during the confrontation and later died at a local hospital. Koki was arrested.
"During a physical struggle over the AR-15, the defendant pointed the handgun at several people, fired it, and hit the victim twice, which resulted in his death," charging documents state.
