MURRAY — Police are investigating whether a medical emergency caused a head-on crash that left a man dead Sunday afternoon.
About 1:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on 700 East near 4500 South, according to Murray police spokeswoman Kristin Reardon. She said a car was traveling south on the road when it crossed into northbound lanes and struck another vehicle head-on.
The driver of the southbound car, identified only as a man in his late 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the other vehicle only suffered minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital, according to Reardon.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but she said that the man may have had a "medical problem" before his car veered into oncoming traffic.
Police closed both directions of 700 East for a brief time because of the investigation, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. The road has since reopened.
