EL PASO, Texas — Calvin Solomon's 13 points helped UTEP defeat Norfolk State 67-65 in the Sun Bowl Invitational. Otis Frazier III made a layup to give UTEP a 62-61 lead with 2:33 to play, and the Miners led the rest of the way. The Miners improved to 7-5 with the victory and the Spartans fell to 8-6.
