SALT LAKE CITY — A man was killed in a forklift accident in Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon.
Salt Lake fire officials said they received a call about a forklift accident about 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived at 1730 N. Beck Street, they found a 56-year-old man had died.
Details on what happened were not immediately available, but Salt Lake fire spokesman Shaun Mumedy said the forklift is presumed to be a "contributing factor" in the workplace death.
Salt Lake City police said based on preliminary investigation, the forklift tipped over and the arms extended and hit a parked van. The man was found next to the van. In an update later Thursday afternoon, police said it appears the forklift's arm hit the man.
His name has not yet been released.
It is unknown what caused the forklift to tip over, Salt Lake police said. The Mine Safety and Health Administration is the primary investigative agency for this accident.
