SALT LAKE CITY — This week's KSL.com Clean Simple Eats high school hoops players of the week spotlight features a pair of seniors looking to leave a positive influence on and off the court.
Taylorsville team captain Jenna Sterzer leads all Utah girls players in rebounds (as of Tuesday), putting up 60 in four games for an average of 15 boards per game. She helped the Warriors start the season 2-0 and stay competitive in a pair of games last week against Maple Mountain and Clearfield.
"As a team, I think we're doing really well," Sterzer said. "We have a lot of chemistry and we really push. It's been a really fun season."
As a captain, Sterzer said her main goal this season is to be a good example on and off the court. She said she takes pride in working on the fundamentals of her game and is currently mastering her jumper in hopes of making it a consistent part of her game.
Ogden senior Stockton Marriott leads the 4-1 Tigers' boys team in points with 71 through five games, helping his squad to second place in 3A's Region 13 behind South Summit.
"Our team is pretty special," Marriott said. "One of our strengths is that we are playing very unselfish ball; we play as a team. The pieces to our puzzle are coming together quite nicely."
Similar to Sterzer, Marriott said his personal goal is to set the tone for the "younger guys" on the team as a teacher and leader.
Ogden heads to Providence Hall Wednesday before welcoming APA West Valley Friday, while Taylorsville travels to Murray Friday.
