As with most legends and tales, the chupacabra didn't always start out as the animal most people think of now. Until the late 90s, most people believed the creature stood on two legs, as opposed to the four-legged creature accepted today.
Loren Coleman, director of the International Cryptozoology Museum told National Geographic that one of the origins of the chupacabra legend stemmed from a bunch of rhesus monkeys getting loose in Puerto Rico.
