SALT LAKE CITY — BYU football fans made a winning play over the weekend in Arkansas, though they didn't directly contribute to the outcome of the Cougars' victory against the Razorbacks. It was a different winning tradition.

BYU fans, plenty of them from Utah, donated 40,000 pounds of goods to a food bank in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The massive donation was a highlight of the weekend for the Fayetteville community, with gratitude pouring in from local civic leaders, according to 5News in Arkansas. The BYU game had its own highlights, especially this touchdown catch by wide receiver Chase Roberts.

How did BYU fans carry that much food all the way to Arkansas? They didn't need to, one BYU fan told 5News. They just strolled into a local Walmart — near the birthplace of the gigantic retailer.

The news outlet said the tradition of BYU fans donating to the local food bank at away games has been going on for a few years.

Another stunning play this past weekend: BYU alum and current NFL player Puka Nacua set a record for the most catches by a rookie in an NFL game.
