SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake motel manager is accused of forcing a woman to perform a sexual act in order to keep her room.
Carlos Jesus Ramos, 31, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony; and sexual extortion, a third-degree felony.
On Feb. 20, a woman paid for a room at Zion's Motel, 1829 S. State Street. At some point when she attempted to enter her room, her key did not work.
"(She) sought out the employee on staff at the time, Carlos Jesus Ramos, to help her get into her room. Ramos told (the woman) that the system had her listed to be kicked out (because of her dog). Ramos told (the woman) that if she 'took care' of him, he would not kick her out," according to charging documents. "The woman asked Ramos if there were any other options and Ramos said 'no,' unless she wanted to pack up her things."
Ramos let the woman into her room, where police say she proceeded to set up her phone to record whatever would happen next. She then let Ramos in and he confirmed that she could stay if she performed a sex act, according to the charges. After she was done, she showed the recording to police.
Prosecutors noted that Ramos is a manager at the motel "and has access to and control of the housing of several individuals, many of them vulnerable young women" and he "has demonstrated he preys upon the vulnerabilities of the guests at the motel," the charges allege.
