In a cappella music, every voice has power. Each singer plays an important part in the composition, bringing different notes and sounds to the song. Just like in a cappella, every individual has a unique voice and the ability to make a difference in other's lives.

Local charity Amplify Benefit Concerts sees the parallels between a cappella music and using one's voice to stand up for kindness. They are combining those two things for an inspiring night of song and entertainment to bring the community together to help end bullying.

The event, called ACA-CON, will be held Sept. 15 and 16 at the Syracuse Arts Academy Amphitheater in Syracuse. It is a unique experience that will be part concert, part kindness rally. The aim is to speak out against bullying and raise awareness of this important issue affecting schools and communities around the country and here in Utah.

Addressing a growing issue

According to data from the Utah State Board of Education, more than 1 in 5 students, 20.8%, report being bullied. Students with disabilities, students of color, and students who identify as LGBTQ+ all experience higher amounts of bullying.

These children and teens who experience bullying are at increased risk for poor school adjustment, sleep difficulties, anxiety, and depression.

These facts are discouraging, which is why Amplify Benefit Concerts wants to raise awareness about an issue impacting so many. Amplify Benefit Concerts was created by Jake and Amanda Tesch to bring communities together to help individuals and families facing hardship. Having raised thousands of dollars for those in need, Amplify Benefit Concerts turned its focus to producing ACA-CON.

"Our voices have incredible power," Amanda Tesch says. "As a cappella singers, we use our voices to create harmony, music, and beats. We hope to touch hearts and inspire others with this beautiful art form. Every person, whether you are a singer or not, has a voice that is powerful. We want to show that our voices can be used to lift others and share kindness."

More about ACA-CON

Teaming up with the organization Stand4Kind to eradicate bullying and promote kindness, ACA-CON is powered by the human voice. ACA-CON will feature three dynamic and entertaining vocal groups: Eclipse 6, Vocalocity and Aggiepella. Each group will bring impressive vocal talent and a high-energy performance.

"We are going all-out to make this an incredible, can't-miss event with bright lights, big sound and no instruments," says Jake Tesch.

A portion of the concert proceeds will be given to the Syracuse City Arts Council, which works tirelessly to keep the arts alive in Davis County. Amplify Benefit Concerts will also be donating a portion of the proceeds to Stand4Kind—a nonprofit organization working with schools in Utah to create a culture where kindness rules.
