SALT LAKE CITY — Check back for the latest scores from all the Week 3 high school football games across the state.
KSL.com Sports' Game of the Week: Lone Peak at Corner Canyon
Why did we choose this game?
The once dominant Region 4 that featured teams like American Fork, Corner Canyon, Lone Peak and Skyridge is no more after the UHSAA made alterations to the various classifications and regions. Corner Canyon was moved to Region 2 to play more Salt Lake-based teams, and Lehi jumped up to 6A to join what is now a reconfigured Region 3 (the new Region 4).
As a result, Corner Canyon has an easier path to a region title, and the schedule isn't as daunting as it used to be for the Chargers. But Lone Peak, one of the Chargers' former Region 4 rivals, hopes to keep Corner Canyon in check ... or at least try. The Knights come off a 31-28 loss to Timpview last week, in which quarterback Jackson Blake threw for three touchdowns.
Lone Peak has an even bigger challenge against a much-improved Corner Canyon team that gave the No. 2 team in the country fits until late in the game when Bishop Gorman pulled away. Utah commit Issac Wilson has been electric for the Chargers so far and has been nearly unstoppable. Last week, he threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for another three.
Can Lone Peak stop Corner Canyon, or will it resemble last season's 35-6 loss? Either way, it's one of Corner Canyon's biggest test of the regular season left — at least until a watered down region play for the Chargers.
