SALT LAKE CITY — A man who allegedly grabbed a woman sleeping on the grass, put her in his car, drove away and sexually assaulted her, has been arrested by Salt Lake City police.
Jesse Hannssel Orozco-Galicia, 37, was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of kidnapping, rape, object rape and forcible sexual abuse.
On Aug. 18, about 2:50 a.m., Orozco-Galicia was at a Salt Lake City convenience store when he saw a woman sleeping on the grass near the corner of 1000 West North Temple. Orozco-Galicia picked up the woman, put her into the back of his car and sped away, according to a police booking affidavit. Multiple witnesses called police. The incident was also recorded on surveillance video.
The woman would later tell police that after she was put into the car against her will, Orozco-Galicia "told her that they were going to have sex," the affidavit states.
The woman says she was trapped in the vehicle because of child locks on the doors. Orozco-Galicia then inappropriately touched the woman as she tried to fight him off and kicked him, according to the affidavit.
"The victim said that the suspect was frustrated by her resistance and took her out of the car," the affidavit states.
Police located Orozco-Galicia on Wednesday. He claims the woman was asking for help, so he put her in his car to take her to another location, according to the affidavit. But he also allegedly admitted that "he was looking for a prostitute that night. (He) said he thought the victim would be easier to have sex with if he gave her a ride," according to the affidavit.
Orozco-Galicia also said after he put the woman in his car, he saw other people at the store pick up rocks and thought they were going to throw them at him.
"When asked why he thought people were going to throw rocks at him, the arrested person said because he took the victim," the affidavit states.
