CLEARFIELD — A man was killed after being struck by a piece of falling equipment at a manufacturing plant in Clearfield early Wednesday.
The man, who was identified only as a 27-year-old from Ogden, was working at the Utility Tractor Manufacturing Company, 1111 S. 1000 West, when a piece of equipment used as a template fell, according to Clearfield Police Lt. Scott Manookin, who noted that the specifics of the incident are still under investigation.
Officials received an emergency call about an unconscious man around 6:30 a.m. When responders arrived, they found co-workers performing CPR on the man, who suffered "severe trauma to his head," Manookin said.
The man was taken by ambulance in critical condition to Holy Cross Hospital in Layton, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the workplace incident, Manookin said.
"Our condolences are offered to the family, friends and co-workers, and all those who have been affected by this incident," he said.
