SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police have identified the bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday.

On Sunday at 4:38 a.m., Juan Mucino, 58, was hit by an SUV near 755 S. Redwood Road while riding a bike. Mucino died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 27-year-old man, turned himself in to police on Monday. Police originally reported his age as 19. Police have not yet released the driver's name.

Police believe the driver of the SUV was northbound on Redwood Road when the cyclist, who was also traveling north, was hit. The driver did not stop and likely continued northbound, according to a statement from Salt Lake police.

After police asked the public for information about the crash, the man who they say was driving contacted officers. Police also announced Tuesday that the SUV he was driving had been located.

This crash marks the 10th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City so far this year, police said.

The case will be reviewed by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office to determine whether charges will be filed.
