FARMINGTON — An inmate at the Davis County Jail was found dead Friday morning.
The individual, 38, was found unresponsive and alone in his cell during morning head counts. No foul play is suspected, spokeswoman Stephanie Dinsmore said.
The cause of death is being determined by the state medical examiner and both internal and external investigations are being conducted. The deceased's family was notified but the jail has not yet released the inmate's name.
"This is a difficult loss for our staff," Davis County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Arnold Butcher said in a statement. "Our team of corrections and medical personnel do all they can to ensure those in our care are looked after like one of their own. Our peer support team has been activated, and our in-house mental health provider has been notified. We ask all employees, whether they are new to our office or veteran staff, to seek these resources or any other resource they find comfort in."
Dinsmore said the Life Safety Committee advisory board is reviewing the incident to see if preventative measures could be taken for the future.
Support for inmates is being provided by Davis Behavioral Health and employees have access to Davis County's employee assistance program, Dinsmore said.
