UNDER THE SEA — Many Utahns have likely followed the talented young Claire Crosby's music career since she was just a tiny toddler with perfect pitch.
Now 10, Claire can really belt it out, and has only continued to improve her alto singing voice. Most recently, her parents posted videos on YouTube and social media of a series of covers she recorded, along with a string quartet, from the new live-action "Little Mermaid," in just about the most perfect "under the sea" setting you can find in land-locked Utah — Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.
Claire sings "Part of Your World" as sharks swim behind her and bubbles float around her; and "Poor, Unfortunate Souls" in front of the jellyfish exhibit, doing a surprisingly good job for a 10-year-old embodying the evil sea-witch, Ursula.
Adorably, she starts singing "Kiss the Girl" just as a cute pair of penguins waddle by.
If you're like me and haven't seen the new movie yet, this video compilation of the songs she covered will make you excited to get to the theater to hear the new songs that were written by Lin Manuel Miranda — and the originals by the great Alan Menken.
Correction: A previous headline incorrectly identified Claire as being from Utah. The family lives in Seattle.
