TOOELE — A Tooele man charged with injuring a child by intentionally pouring scalding water on the girl is now accused of also possessing child pornography.
Kelsey Ryan Tanner, 30, was arrested and charged in 3rd District Court on May 1 with aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony.
On that day, a 1-year-old girl was taken to Primary Children's Hospital with second-degree burns primarily to her genital area and inner thighs, according to a police booking affidavit. Tanner said he was attempting to bathe the child but she fell into the bathtub while he wasn't looking.
Police, however, noted that the girl's hands and feet were not burned, meaning that she did not try to move out of a tub. Investigators concluded that Tanner "poured scalding water" onto the child, according to the affidavit.
"The child victim had to undergo skin grafting surgery," police noted in the affidavit.
On Wednesday, as part of the ongoing investigation, detectives learned that several inappropriate pictures of the girl were on Tanner's cellphone, which were taken about 3½ hours before the girl was burned, a second affidavit states.
Amended charges were filed on Thursday against Tanner to include aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
