TOOELE — A Tooele Junior High School student was found with an unloaded gun at school on Thursday, according to police.
The school's resource officer received a tip Thursday morning that a student may have brought a firearm onto the school campus, according to a news release from the Tooele Police Department.
Tooele Police Cpl. Colbey Bentley said another student first reported the firearm to a teacher. There were no threats associated with the gun when the tip came in, he said.
After an investigation by school resource officers and administrators, the student was found in possession of an unloaded handgun, which was confiscated, according to police.
An investigation is still ongoing, though investigators said "it does not appear there was malicious intent." The gun was brought from the home of the student's parents, Bentley said.
"We appreciate the students and staff at Tooele Jr. High School and their prompt actions to keep our students safe," the news release said.
