CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK — The death of a Colorado man whose body was found in Canyonlands National Park is being investigated.
About 10 a.m. Monday, park staffers received a report of an unoccupied vehicle in the Maze District. "A search of the area near the vehicle located a deceased 48-year-old male from Nederland, Colorado," according to a statement from the National Park Service released Wednesday.
Deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and a helicopter crew from the Utah Department of Public Safety helped recover the body. The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
No other information was released Wednesday.
According to the National Park Service website, "The Maze is the least accessible district of Canyonlands. Due to the district's remoteness and the difficulty of roads and trails, travel to the Maze requires more time. Visitors must be prepared for self-sufficiency and the proper equipment or gear for self-rescue."
