WEST VALLEY CITY — A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and injured after a driver evaded a traffic stop and caused another vehicle to spin on Wednesday, police said.
The crash happened after metro gang units tried to stop a 21-year-old driver who then fled, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said. Police stopped the pursuit and the driver turned in front of a car, causing it to spin into the 67-year-old man.
The pedestrian sustained injuries that did not appear life-threatening, police said, and was taken to a local hospital.
After the crash, the driver who police had been trying to pull over ran away from the scene, and he dropped a gun and what police suspect to be methamphetamine, Cutler said.
Officers used K-9 dogs to track the man to a home near 3600 West and 3100 South in West Valley City, where he was taken into custody after a short struggle.
Cutler said investigators do not believe the 21-year-old had any connections to the home.
