WASHINGTON — The Florida Panthers beat the Washington Capitals 6-3 in a big game in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. The Panthers have closed an 11-point gap since New Year's Day and have now tied the Capitals at 62. Veteran defenseman Marc Staal scored his first goal with the Panthers to end a 75-game drought dating to March 2022. Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves to continue his strong play of late that has helped Florida claw into the playoff chase. Darcy Kuemper allowed four goals for Washington, which went 0-3-0 on its three-game homestand.
