SOUTH SALT LAKE — Curly Me! hosted a career fair that gave girls the opportunity to meet people of color in various career fields in South Salt Lake.

Curly Me! is an organization dedicated to educating, empowering and encouraging children and young adults of color, specifically black girls.

"We emphasize loving and appreciating the natural you through community events and mentorship," Curly Me! said in a Facebook post.

The career fair was called "Change the World with Her" and aimed to give children ages 5-14 the opportunity to see professionals that "look like them."

"It's never too early to learn about what you want to be — or change what you want to be — and we want to give these children the access and opportunity to talk to folks from different backgrounds and from different disciplines," Curly Me! founder Alyssha Dairsow said.

The event included community vendors offering resources and a panel for older kids to get one-on-one conversations with professionals. There was also an area where participants rotated through tables to learn about different career paths.

"We just want to make sure they have that representation in aerospace engineering or in acting, right here in Salt Lake City," Dairsow said.
