SALT LAKE CITY — Four teenagers, including a 14-year-old pregnant girl, were taken into custody Saturday night after gang detectives said they saw them commit a drive-by shooting.

About 10:30 p.m., detectives with the Salt Lake police gang unit reported witnessing the shooting about 10:30 p.m. near 500 N. Pamela Way (1820 West) when a green Nissan Maxima entered the neighborhood and the occupants fired multiple rounds.

The shooting did not injure anyone, police said.

"Officers performed a traffic stop using their lights and sirens, but the driver of the Nissan took off and refused to stop," according to a statement from Salt Lake police.

Officers chased after the vehicle and the Nissan crashed into a car near 900 N. Sir Michael Drive (1955 West). Four teenagers from the vehicle were taken into custody — including a 14-year-old pregnant girl who was in the front passenger seat, according to the statement. She was taken to a hospital.

One 16-year-old boy had a stolen handgun, according to police. A second handgun was also located in the car. The boy was booked into the Salt Lake Valley Juvenile Detention Center for investigation of possession of a stolen firearm. A second 16-year-old boy was booked for investigation of fleeing and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

A 15-year-old boy was released to his guardians but police said he is being investigated for unlawful discharge of a firearm. The girl's involvement and whether charges will be pursued against her was under investigation Sunday.

"Because of their actions, these teenagers put our officers, community and themselves in significant danger," Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown said in a prepared statement. "It is both tragic and alarming to see this level of conflict resolution unfold in our community. Salt Lake City is not immune to the gun violence plaguing our country, but our officers are doing everything they can to safely short-circuit that violence and to hold people accountable."
